Another few months, another new demo. Welcome back Starchasers! Demo 2.05 will most likely be our last release for the year, unless someone finds any more centipedes hanging about. It's also our first Linux and Mac releases in quite some time. It's got quite a few new things so check out the changelog below!
KNOWN ISSUES
- Interior models for ships, stations, and planets, are currently untextured or unimplemented.
- Voice acting is currently unimplemented.
- Painting maps for ships may be missing.
- Joystick and controller support vestigial and more or less not implemented and having a controller plugged in can introduce weirdness.
- In-game manual currently lacks most features.
- Ambient stormtrackers might sometimes fly through Agganite Station. Again. How lovely.
NEW CONTENT & FEATURES
- New models for cockpits along with diegetic UI elements in cockpits.
- More enemies and hazards in storms.
- More detailed mission descriptions.
- Ambient NPCs during campaign missions.
- New UI For charging highengines.
- New UI for gaining or losing money.
- Total overhaul of missiles and how they work: Missiles can now knock ships out of highengine, bypass shields, and more.
- Total overhaul of how mines work: They now leave behind damaging debris fields and can be prematurely detonated, making them much more useful.
- Chapter/syndicate rank, rewards, and progress can be viewed on the information UI.
- Records are now divided into subcategories, along with an in-character journal explaining various events for the main campaign.
- New NPCs in various stations and planets, mostly for ambience along with some world information.
- Added a skip intro button to the opening cutscene, for those who don’t care about the story in an RPG.
- Total overhaul of NPC drop tables: dropping a wider variety of objects, including more wrecked loot.
- Preliminary overhaul of the in-game manual, including subcategories and video support.
CHANGES & BUGFIXES
- Fixed saving issues under certain mission circumstances.
- Fixed issue with world states not saving properly and preventing a game from being loaded.
- Armor now affects thruster drain rate, rather than ship turn rate.
- Rebalanced some prices and stats of equipment and commodities.
- Fixed some spawn areas in the demo star system.
- Improved docking code to be much more aggressive and able to path around certain obstacles.
- Fixed issue where Rishen’s dialogue wasn’t working.
- Disabling or enabling certain alternate modes, such as manual docking or alternating fire, now displays messages.
- The navigation UI can now be disabled when using the “hide inventory” option. Note that turning on the navigational grid will occlude most of the screen because there’s a stonking huge grid suddenly.
- The aiming reticule is now accurate and dependent on the average speed of all currently active guns.
- The news UI now has images to go along with its stories. This is still WIP.
- Encounter zones can now more dynamically select how enemies spawn, giving players the occasional break from a battle.
- Fixed issue where encounters would never respawn.
- Fixed issue where you couldn’t use camera modes while docking.
- Fixed issues related to manual docking.
- Scanning scannable objects releases tiny effects now.
- Rebalanced certain minibosses during quests.
- Fixed issue with icons on the navmap scaling improperly.
- Fixed some issues related to double-use waypoint navigation.
- Fixed issue where unlocked party members wouldn’t be saved by the game.
- Fixed issue where customized engines would look wrong and not have proper light systems.
- Fixed issue where NPCs fleeing could cause slowdowns.
- Ace pilots can now be scanned for more information and additional rewards if sold to a data center.
- Wrecked items can now be deposited in storage.
